Minutes of the Wortham & Burgate Parish Council Commons Committee meeting held in Wortham Pavilion on Monday 11th May 2026 at 6.38pm (following the Playing Field Committee meeting)

  1. Chair’s welcome and to consider accepting apologies for absence - Cllr Williams welcomed everyone and apologies from Cllr Bradley were unanimously approved.
  2. To record declarations of interest from members in any item to be discussed - None
  3. To consider any dispensations from members in any item to be discussed - None
  4. To receive the Clerks Report and any outstanding items/actions - A quote has been received to cut the area outside the Primary School to the corner of the Mellis Road. The quote was discussed and the clerk is to arrange a meeting with the contractor to discuss other matters on the agenda.
  5. To discuss changing the review dates for the Terms of Reference (TOR) - the current TOR for the Commons Committee are reviewed every 4 years. As all other TOR are reviewed every 3 years and to keep continuity, the proposal is to change the Commons TOR to 3 years - Proposed Cllr Wright, seconded Cllr Piper and agreed unanimously. Clerk to amend Terms of Reference
  6. To discuss Capital Works - Capital works that were previously agreed, had not been carried out. Work is still required to clear brambles around pond 2 and 10. The pond in front of the Manor House requires the brambles grubbing. The willow tree at the entrance to the track of the Village Hall needs to be polled as visibility is very poor. Clerk to liaise with contractor
  7. To receive items from Councillors - Ponies on the Common - The Clerk is meeting with PC Sophie Buckle on 22nd May 2026 as the ponies are still causing a serious problem.
  8. To discuss any correspondence received - Numerous emails from the Environmental Agency/Rural Payments Agency had not been addressed regarding the Rural Payments and therefore the extension to the Countryside Stewardship had not been taken up. Unfortunately no further payments are due.
  9. To receive items for the next agenda - Verge Cutting, Capital Works, Ponies.
