Minutes of Wortham & Burgate Parish Council Commons Committee meeting, held in Wortham Pavilion on Thursday 29th June 2023 at 7:00pm.

- Chair’s welcome and to consider accepting apologies for absence – Cllr Williams was not present so it was agreed unanimously for Cllr Grocott to chair the meeting. No apologies received.
- To record declarations of interest from members in any item to be discussed – None.
- To consider any dispensations from members in any item to be discussed – None.
- Adjourn the meeting to allow public participation – 7:03pm - no participation.

- To receive the Clerk’s report and any outstanding items/actions – nothing to report.
- To consider and approve quotations for topping of the common
Cllr Thornton has obtained four quotations which were shared with councillors. The quotations are for two cuts and do not include the areas by the shop or removal of the cuttings. After discussing the quotations and their preferred contractor, Cllr Grocott proposed instructing Chris Townsend to proceed. This was seconded by Cllr Thornton and agreed unanimously with 1 abstention. Cllr Thornton will thank all the contractors who tendered, and advise them of the decision.
- To discuss Capital Works required and approve quotations received
Following an assessment of the common by committee members on Thursday 22nd June 2023, there are some trees in need of attention. There are five trees which need work; two willows on the common, and a tree in pond 10, pond 7 and pond 9). Two need to be removed completely and three require trimming. It was agreed for Cllr Grocott to provide the details to Carl Baker and request he obtain quotations for the work, which will be an agenda item for consideration and approval at the Parish Council meeting on 25th July 2023.
The area immediately around the ponds, and the ditches also require cutting. Cllr Grocott will obtain quotations for this work once the common has been topped, and the tree works carried out.
